Tools and Materials

A noncommercial workshop checklist: the specifications to compare for flute measurement, hole-making, printing, and storage.

Workshop specifications

No products, prices, affiliate IDs, or claims of hands-on testing are listed. Compare specifications against your actual blank and equipment.

Filament

Dimensional consistency, moisture condition, print temperature range, and the manufacturer’s handling guidance.

Nozzles

Orifice diameter, printer compatibility, and wear resistance when using abrasive filled filament.

Calipers

Range, resolution, and access to the bore; check against a reference before recording measurements.

Drill bits

Actual cutting diameter, runout, material suitability, and a conservative pilot size.

Reamers and files

Controlled material removal and access to the hole edge without damaging adjacent surfaces.

Tuners

Reference-pitch adjustment, cents display, and stable readings at consistent breath pressure.

Clamps

Secure support that does not crush the blank or obstruct the tool path.

Eye and dust protection

Protection appropriate to the tool and material, chosen using manufacturer safety guidance.

Sanding and finishing

Material-compatible abrasives and finish instructions, including cure time and intended contact use.

Storage and drying

Dry conditions appropriate to the material, with filament storage following supplier instructions.
