About WNC Flute

A free, independent Western North Carolina workshop project for careful flute layout, local build notes, and final hand tuning.

A workshop utility

WNC Flute provides a free Native-style flute calculator, printable layouts, and browser-local build notes. It is not currently a handmade-flute store. The project is maintained as an independent Western North Carolina workshop project.

Local-first operation

Calculations run on your device. Notes and saved inputs stay in the current browser and device; there are no accounts or cloud synchronization. Export notes to keep a separate backup. Shared links include the calculator dimensions you choose to share; see Privacy.

Calculating is a starting point

Acoustic assumptions estimate a starting layout. Actual bore geometry, leaks, breath pressure, tool technique, and the sound mechanism affect the finished instrument. Measure the blank, drill undersized, and use a tuner during gradual hand tuning. Read the documented method and limitations.

Independence and corrections

WNC Flute is not affiliated with the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) or any tribal organization. It does not present ceremonial knowledge or tribal teaching. Send corrections through Contact.
